Meenakari: The Hidden Signature of Craftsmanship

1) Flip any Jadau piece.
2) The back should have bright, detailed, clean meenakari work.
Why it matters: Good meenakari only holds well on proper gold karatage.
If the enamel looks patchy, dull, or faded it means:
❌ Poor quality ghat used
❌ Gold is thin or of lower karat
❌ Shortcuts taken in production
The Gold reality check

Real Jadau needs structure, gold provides strength.
High-volume designs with low gold weight often mean:
- Thin base structure (GHAT)
- Weak durability
- Mostly wax-filled or hollow areas
Note- Heavy in look doesn’t always mean heavy in value

✅ Stones are set inside the gold, not floating
(The stones sit securely within the gold framework, indicating true handcrafted setting)
✅ Slight imperfections that reflects the beauty of handwork
(Minor irregularities show that each stone was placed by hand, not machine-fitted)
✅ Neat bezels around each stone
(Each stone is cleanly bordered with gold, holding it firmly and elegantly in place)

❌ Glue is visible between the stones
(If adhesive is visible, it’s a shortcut, not traditional Jadau craftsmanship)
❌ Stones look stuck on top, not set inside
(Stones appear pasted rather than embedded, lacking structural integrity)
❌ Everything looks ‘too perfect’
(Overly uniform placement suggests machine-pressed pieces, unlike the karigari of artisans)
Size v/s Substance
A large Jadau necklace that’s priced attractively and feels surprisingly lightweight?
“Full-neck Jadau set for ₹4.5-5 Lakh”
Seems like a great deal, until you realize it only has 18 grams of gold. That’s not possible for a large, handcrafted necklace unless quality is severely compromised.
What to watch out for:
✅ Check the gold weight, not just the size.
✅ Real Jadau work involves setting stones inside solid gold. If there’s very little gold, the structure becomes weak.
✅ It maybe has filled or layered base to give a bulky look
Note- Invest in craftsmanship, not just appearance.
Now, you’ll be able to identify what makes Jadau jewellery truly valuable, from the back detailing to the gold weight and the setting quality.
We’re sure you’ll never look at Jadau the same way again!
